Clyde Hubert Smedley

November 3, 1932 ~ April 12, 2018 (age 85)

CLYDE HUBERT SMEDLEY, age 85, of Washington CH, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:41 p.m. at Signature Healthcare of Fayette County.

He was born on November 3, 1932 in Jackson County, West Virginia to William G. and Mary Florence Foster Smedley. Clyde had worked at the Abex Corporation in Grafton, Ohio as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member at the First Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens of Fayette County. Clyde was a Golden Glove Boxer and was known as, “Clyde the Glide Smedley.” He enjoyed fishing, playing in pool tournaments, gardening, and watching old western movies.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Helen Burke Smedley; three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Blazer Smedley, whom he married on March 6, 2011; his children, Terry Lee Smedley, and Charlene Annette Burdett; grandchildren, Monica (Gustavo) Burdett, Jennifer (Colin) Reeder, Michael Burdett, and John (Eva) Burdett; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Julian, Eli, and Logan. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Current officiating with burial to follow at the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may visit at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
