Janet Fleisher Obituary

Janet Marie Fleisher, age 80, of Washington Court House, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Family and loved ones were at her side.

Janet was born November 22, 1937 in Deer Run, West Virginia to Pearl and Iscie Rexrode. Janet was the youngest of four children. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Ralph Rexrode and sister Erma Mitchell.

Janet Married Curtis Fleisher March 31, 1956 in her home church. Their son, David, was born in 1965 when the couple lived in Millersport, Ohio. The family ultimately moved to Washington Court House in 1969 when Curtis became principal of Miami Trace High School.

Janet was a lifelong church member and was active in church choirs and various church women organizations. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Circleville and an associate member of Fellowship Lutheran Church in Columbus. She was a firm believer that God granted her strength, courage and endurance throughout her life. She trusted in God’s will for her. She never gave up. She held tight to her faith.

Janet was active in the New Holland Lioness Club for more than twenty years. She actively supported Curtis and David in their professional and organizational pursuits. Although shy by nature, Janet firmly and steadfastly supported her family. She encouraged her husband and son to pursue their goals and dreams. She provided the support necessary for them to achieve them.

Janet could literally bring dying plants back to life. She had an extraordinary talent for nurturing beautiful plants and gardens. One plant obtained from her mother-in-law when Janet was a young woman is now a permanent part of the Nationwide Insurance home office Atrium gardens. That plant is now more than 70 years old.

She was a gracious lady who enjoyed selecting cards and gifts for those she cared about. She maintained a humble elegance. She appreciated any kindness shown her. Even when not feeling well, she made certain to look her best at all times. She was our sounding board, our rock, our inspiration and our role model.

Janet is survived by Curtis - her husband and true love of 61 years, her son David (Mike McKinley), brother Herald Rexrode, dear friend Becky Bloomer, many friends and extended family around the country and her beloved dog “Skippy”.

The family sincerely thanks the staff members of St. Catherine’s, Court House Manor, Fayette County Memorial and Riverside Hospitals for the loving, compassionate care shown to our dear Janet.

Friends may call at Summers Funeral Home, 223 West Market Street, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160 from 1-3pm Monday, March 5, 2018. Funeral service will begin at 3pm.
