OPAL JOHNS, age 90, of Washington CH, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. at her home.
She was born on December 23, 1925 in Fayette County, to Leroy and Daisy Simmons Wilson. She had worked at Orient State and also the Columbus Psychiatric Hospital. She was a lifelong member of the Second Baptist Church where she had been very active in various ministries. Opal enjoyed sewing, shopping, going to the movies, and enjoyed hearing her daughters, "Sisters In Christ" sing, and was always their biggest fan. She also loved being with her children and grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald W. Johns, her son, Donald E. Johns, two brothers, Theodore Wilson and Fred Wilson, as well as five sisters, Geraldine Ellis, Winifred Garrett, Betty Yates, Mary Witherspoon, and Virginia Benson.
Survivors include her children, Pat (James) Hargo, Susan Johns, and Christie (David) Woolever; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lucille Wilson, Margaret (Bob) Wood, Joanne Wood, and Robert Wood. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery with Pastor Lester Sanders officiating. In keeping with Opal's wishes, there will be no public viewing.
