ROBERT LEE “BOB” HENKLE, age 90, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 3:35 a.m. at his home.
He was born on July 3, 1927 in Fayette County to Allan E. and Mary Parrott Henkle. He was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School. Bob retired from the Washington CH Post Office after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #129 for 43 years, an active member at the Fayette County Commission on Aging, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed playing pool, poker, going hunting, and being with his family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Geraldine Dill Henkle, whom he married on September 12, 1954; grandson, Zachary Oesterle; great-grandson, KaeJay Whiteside; sister, Maurine Henkle; and his special friend, Erma Happeny.
Survivors include his children, Robin (Gary) Benson, Kris (Larry) Dumford, both of Washington CH, Kimberly Henkle of West Jefferson, and Lance Henkle of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Holly Dray, Erin Dumford, Sean (Erica) Dumford, Mandy (Chad) Richardson, Joshua, Jaime, and Cory Miller, Jessica (Rodney) Knisley, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Virgil Hawkins officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In keeping with Mr. Henkle’s wishes, cremation will take place after the service with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
