E. Myrtis (Bailey) Klugh Obituary

Mrs. E. Myrtis (Bailey) Klugh, 97, of McKinney, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024.  Mrs. Klugh was born on May 1, 1926, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Joel C. Bailey and Anna Katherine (Blount) Bailey.

Mrs. Klugh grew up in Washington Court House, Ohio.  She graduated from Washington High School before attending two years at The Ohio State University.  While attending The Ohio State University, Mrs. Klugh met her husband Roderick D. Klugh Sr. and they married on July 10, 1949, in Washington Court House, Ohio.  Mrs. Klugh left university before graduating to be with her husband in California who had been drafted into the Army.  The two were married for seventy-two years before Roderick passed in 2022.  Together, the couple were blessed with two children, Marcethe and Roderick.

Mrs. Klugh and Mr. Klugh raised their family in Oakland, California. Mrs. Klugh worked for several federal agencies before retiring from the Social Security Administration in 1985.  While working, Mrs. Klugh earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Mills College in Oakland.  In retirement, she enjoyed traveling home to Ohio each year to help care for and spend time with her family.  She also traveled to Puerto Rico and to Okinawa, Japan where she witnessed the birth of her granddaughter.

Mrs. Klugh was a Christian woman.  She was a faithful member of Faith Chapel Church of God of The East Bay, San Leandro, CA.  She was a Sunday School teacher for adults and assisted with the church’s Easter and Christmas programs.  A talented singer, Mrs. Klugh sang many solos in her church and others.

Mrs. Klugh was a great wife, mother, daughter, a gifted singer, and a talented seamstress.  She loved on her family, loved to sing Christian music and opera, and had a love of making clothes.  Mrs. Klugh still responded to Christian music in the last days of her life, her favorite being He Touched Me.

Mrs. Klugh is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Marcethe Klugh, of Oakland, California; son, Roderick D. Klugh, Jr. (Lonetta), of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, James, Roderick III, Taylor, and Taylor; great-grandchild, Aydien; brother, Willis E (Geneva) Bailey; sister, Euolinda (James) Logan; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roderick D. Klugh Sr.; parents, Joel and Anna Katherine (Blount) Bailey; brothers, Joel, Robert, Alvin; and sister Lois.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 in the First Church of God with Pastor Patrick K. Gamble, Sr. officiating. Burial to follow in the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
