Betty Jane Waites

BETTY JANE WAITES, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 2:02 a.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born on August 7, 1939 in Fayette County to Albert Theodore and Bernice Christine Redding Sockman. Betty retired from the National Glove Factory in Mt. Sterling; after retirement, she enjoyed spending her time as a babysitter. She had been a faithful member at The Pilgrim Holiness Church in Era, Ohio. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed reading her Bible, going to church, gardening, and being with her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Lee Waites, whom she married on February 6, 1958; siblings, Melvin Sockman, Floyd Sockman, Phillip Sockman, Theodore Sockman, Wanda VanOver, and Robert Sockman; sisters-in-law, Betty Sockman, Evie Sockman, and Margaret Sockman; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Harper, and Donald Graham.

Survivors include her siblings, Jean Ann (Robert) Hall, Lucinda (Orville) Harper, Ronald (Karen) Sockman, Roger Sockman, Jack (Shirley) Sockman, Terry (Linda) Sockman, and Sue Graham. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Smith officiating with burial to follow at the Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-8:00 p.m.
