JACK C. SMITH, age 87, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 1:05 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington CH.
He was born on June 10, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to Oliver and Myrtle Wolf Smith. He was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as parts manager for Branderburg Motors, and Chenoweth Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Xenia. Jack had also worked as the store keeper for Warren Correctional, and Montgomery Correctional Institutions. He was most recently employed as a driver for Gusweilers in Washington CH. Jack was a member of the Elks Post #129 where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler, and the American Legion Post #125. Jack also had volunteered his time at Paint Creek State Park for over twenty-one years. He enjoyed boating, camping, watching football, but more importantly, he loved being a grandpa and a great-grandpa.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Herb Sowders; brother, Bill Smith; Willard and Hazel Lineger, Wayne “Buddy” Boyer, and infant great-grandson, Blake Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Smith, whom he married on October 9, 1950 in Richmond, Indiana; his son, Kevin (Lenora) Smith; grandchildren, Carey Smith, Devin (Erin) Smith; great-grandchildren, Kylie Smith, Ethan Smith, Lyndon Ellis Jay Smith, and baby boy Smith arriving in February; step-sister, Janet Boyer; and special friends, Mike (Meg) Cruea, and Lora Jean Slaven.
In keeping with Mr. Smith’s wishes, cremation has been observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
