John Howard Havens Jr.

JOHN HOWARD HAVENS JR., age 74, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 6:44 a.m. at Mount Carmel West.

He was born on November 12, 1943 in Union County, North Carolina to John Howard and Marjorie Lucille Dove Havens. John was a 1961 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School. He retired from Mac Tools in 1995 after thirty years of service. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, country music, grilling out, watching the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns, collecting sports cards, and being with family.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Nicholas Havens.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie Knisley Havens, whom he married on August 15, 1963; children, John (Leslie) Havens III, Tony Havens, Eric (Linda) Havens, Chris Havens, and Amanda (William) Harper; grandchildren, Brandon Havens, Felecity, London, and Skylar Havens, Angela Murphy, Tyler and Sarah Havens, Dartaynene Zimmerman, Andrew, Nicolet, Eric, and Eva Harper; great-grandson, Isaac Havens; and brothers, Lloyd Havens, Steve Havens, and Kirby (Sue) Havens. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the White Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
