MELVIN DEAN WIELAND, age 87, of Washington CH, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 4:53 a.m. at his home.

He was born on November 12, 1930 in Montgomery County to Raymond Roosevelt and Jane Linn Wieland. He was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School. Melvin proudly served his country in the Ohio National Guard before he was drafted to the US Army in 1953. He trained in Japan for chemical and atomic warfare defense. Melvin served in Korea until 1955 as a Troop Information Instructor. After his career in the military, Melvin worked at Armco Steel until his retirement in 1990 after thirty-five years of service as a production control supervisor. He had attended the Heritage Memorial Church for many years. Melvin was a faithful, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed restoring classic Ford cars and trucks, and being with his family.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Gail Ann Wieland; and brother, Gene Wieland.

Survivors include his wife, Lois L. Boyer Wieland, whom he married on January 5, 1952; children, Greg (Carol) Wieland of Columbus, Cindy (Robert) Elrich of Washington CH, and Steve (Patricia) Wieland of Blacklick; grandchildren, Kurt (RaeAnna) Wieland, Megan (Mike) Wright, Ryan Elrich, and Nicholas and Brooks Wieland; great-grandchildren, Henson and Ansel Wieland, and Mack and Macy Wright. Also surviving are several cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church with Pastor Bruce Morrison and Rev. Joe Duvall officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
