Ronald Grottendick Obituary

RONALD CARL GROTTENDICK, age 78, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:59 a.m. at Fayette County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 15, 1940 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Carl and Ruth Combs Grottendick. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Peter’s High School in Fairmont and a graduate of Fairmont State University. Ron received his Master’s Degree in Education from Xavier University in 1972. He had worked as the Principal at the New Holland School until his retirement in 1993. Ron attended the St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church. He enjoyed old cars, telling stories, history, trivia, and was an avid Notre Dame and West Virginia fan.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joyce Moore; granddaughter, Ann Deck; great-grandson, Jonah Barnhill; son-in-law, Michael Rosenberger; and brother-in-law, Bob Keffler.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Betty Schonauer Grottendick, whom he married in 1969; children, Gerry Roseberger, and Heidi (Doug) Cawood; grandchildren, Matthew Barnhill, Morgan Barnhill, Buffy (Michael) Bolin, Wiley Cawood, Jamie (Mark) Howard, and Justin Deck; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna Lu Keffler. Also surviving are several cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Father William Hahn officiating with burial to follow at the St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
