SHARON RAE THORNTON, age 73, of Washington CH, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 10:55 a.m. at her home.
She was born on January 10, 1945 in Fayette County to Raymond Carroll and Ruby Mae Stewart Ater. She was a 1963 graduate of Miami Trace High School and a 1965 graduate of the Jackson Business College in Jackson, Ohio. Sharon had worked as a secretary at Wright Patterson Air Force Base until her retirement in 1994, she then returned to work at the Courtview Restaurant until it closed. She was a faithful member of the Crossroads Christian Church. She enjoyed making candy, cooking, puzzling, and collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby (Roger) Snyder; and niece, Rochelle Snyder.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Eugene Thornton, whom she married on August 21, 1976; children, Charlotte Mercer, Richard (Wendy) Jones, and Nancy Hanlon; grandchildren, Clayton Jones, Holden (Cassie) Jones, Nathan Pendergraft, Rose Hanlon, and Craig Hanlon; great-grandchildren, Findley Jones, and Austyn Pendergraft; siblings, Robin Ater, and Roger (Wendy Adams) Ater; and special friends and cousins, Larry (Dorothy) Stewart. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Jon Creamer officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
