THEODORE RICHARD “TED” BOWMAN, age 84, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 2:50 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington CH.
He was born on June 4, 1934 in Franklin County to Charles Franklin Sr. and Vida Fern Wallace Bowman. Ted grew up in New Rome, on the west side of Columbus. He was a graduate of Hilliard High School. He had been employed at Burgess & Niple Engineering and Architecture Firm in Columbus where he worked as a surveyor. Ted also worked as a long-haul truck driver. He attended the First Christian Church, South Side Church of Christ, and most recently became a member at the Greenfield Church of Christ. He enjoyed field trial races with his father, racing horses, and becoming a small plane pilot.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles F. Bowman Jr.; and brother-in-law, Melvin Distelhorst.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Delcie Mae Copas Bowman, whom he married on May 17, 1963; children, Roger Copas, and Pam (Steve) Sohn; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lori) Tuttle, Jamie (Matt) Rankin, Jason (Shawnie) Copas, Brandon Copas, and Sara (Dan) Sohn; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Cheyenne, Kylen, Trevor, and Braylon; and sisters, Doris Distelhorst, and Madline (Larry) Miller. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds and Steve Henderson officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
