Obituary

Our Beloved BERNARD 'BERNIE' POWELL, age 72, of Bloomingburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. at the Court House Manor Nursing Home. He was born on October 6, 1943 in Culloden, West Virginia to Cecil and Lola Harmon Powell. He was a graduate of Southeastern High School and attended the former Circleville Bible College for one year. He was a pastor for many years and also had worked as a truck driver and retired as a bus driver for the Miami Trace School System. He loved gardening, cooking, grilling outdoors, hunting, fishing but especially loved spending time with his family. Bernie served the Lord all of his life and was a wonderful husband, father, dedicated grandfather and great-grandfather. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Leslie and Steven Powell. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia Sue Montgomery Powell, whom he married on June 7, 1963; his children Brenda (Bill) Johnston, Patricia (Bill) Pratt, and Cindy (Sam) Dodson; grandchildren Randy (Misty) Mossbarger, Amanda (Nick) Timothy, Steffany Pratt, Kasey Pratt, Jared Pratt, and Sammy Dodson; great-grandchildren Arabella and Parker Timothy, Treven Haithcock and Jadelynn Slone; his best friend, Dick Davis. Also surviving are siblings Delores (E.C.) Baker, Pearl Roister, Mary Peters, Jeanie Osborne, Ralph (Betty) Powell, Cecil Powell, Clyde (Priscilla) Powell, Roger (Alice) Powell and Michael (Cathy) Powell as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Davis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12-2 p.m. Cremation will follow. Following the service a time of celebration and fellowship will take place at the Eagles Lodge at 320 Sycamore St. in Washington CH.
