BETSY ELLEN SHORT BRUCE SPEELMAN, age 94, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at her daughter's home. She was born on March 8, 1929 in Fayette County to the late Harry and Stella Hastings Short.
Betsy had worked at Jackson Glove Manufacturing and was retired from Calmar. She was a member of Anchor Baptist Church and will be remembered as being a "Prayer Warrior" for all of her family and friends. Betsy enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, canning and visiting with her family. Betsy also liked spending time with her canine friend, Elvis and her cat, Ricki.
Survivors include her children, Willadean Free, Stellajean (David) Aills, Donas Marlene (Rick) Martindale, all of Washington Court House and Edward Charles (Terry) Bruce of Deltona, Florida; her grandchildren; Brad (Anita) Mastin, David W. Aills, Christine (Chris) Taylor, Clarissa Lyn Hess, JR (Karen) Martindale, Jeremy Gose and Janine Jenkins. Also surviving are twenty-two great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great; her sister, Phyllis (Raymond) Robinson and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by her stepmother, Gladys Short; her first husband, Edward Dean Bruce; her second husband, Harold Speelman; her granddaughter, Marybeth Mastin Wood; her grandsons in-law, Christopher Graham and Kenneth Hess; her great-great granddaughter, Isabella Graham; her brothers, Daris Dale Short and John W. Short and her sister in-law, Virginia Short.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anchor Baptist Church in Washington CH with Dr. John Lewis officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Thursday evening from 4-7:00 p.m.
