BETTIE KERR GRAY, was born Virginia Elizabeth Kerr in Vancouver, B.C. to the late Virginia Davenport Kerr and John Harold Kerr. Bettie lived a long life of family, dance, music and art. She passed away on May 5, 2016, in South Carolina, where she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and James Humphries.
She was the wife, for 52 years, to the late Gordon Dallas Gray, mother of Diane Gray of Painesville, Ohio, Karen Whiting of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Heidi Humphries of Piedmont, SC; grandmother of Gregory and Timothy Davidson, Cheri Milan, David and Patrick Benadum, Julie and James Humphries, James Viera, and Cole and Tyler Whiting; great-grandmother of Chad D'Aiello, Jamie Wannemacher, Alexis, Andrea and Sydney Benadum, Haley, David and Cara Benadum, Sadie and Riley Pickens, Triston Davidson, Lola and Marco Viera, Ryan and Ally Whiting; great-great-grandmother of Bristol and Milan Wannemacher. She was preceded in death by her brother, Murray Kerr and sister, Barbara Crosswhite.
Bettie taught dance in Painesville for more than 50 years. Many of her students remember her as their "second mom". She affected the lives of many young people as she danced, sang, played the piano, designed and sewed costumes, and painted beautiful murals on the walls of Studio Theatre. She also taught dance many summers for NADAA, traveling across the United States.
The Grays moved from Painesville to Washington CH, Ohio in 1991 where Bettie served as President of the Fayette County Genealogical Society for several years.
A Celebration of Bettie's Life will be held at the Summers Funeral Home, 223 W. Market St., Washington CH, OH on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bettie's name to Hospice House of Greenville, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681
