Obituary

BETTY MAE CARDIFF In the comfort of her home, Betty Mae Cardiff, age 88, silently passed on Saturday, September 17, 2016, and went on to dance again with her husband of 68 years to their song "Moon River". Betty was born on July 28, 1925, the only child of Fred H. Bennett (deceased 1989) and Margaret E. (Brown) Bennett. After her mother's death in 1934, she was raised by her grandparents, William Edward Brown and Lora (Batson) Brown, and spent much of her childhood years with her cousin, Hubert W. Watson, who she considered a brother. She graduated from Sabina High School in 1947, maintained a life-long friendship with classmate Ellie Mae Gaines and married her only love, Glen E. Cardiff, on October 8, 1948, in Good Hope. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her husband, Glen, on January 7, 2015. Survivors include a son, Michael G. Cardiff (Mary Robinson); daughters, Lora L. (Rick) Smith, and Sandra K. (Daniel) Lewis; grandchildren Erin L. (Chad) McElwee, Scott E. Lewis, Jessica D. Lewis, Amy K. (Allen) Hudson, Chad J. Smith; four great-grandchildren and another soon-to-be great-granddaughter and great-great-grandson. Betty's life was home and family. She was kind, generous, and loved visits from her children and grandchildren. Her smiling blue eyes will never be forgotten. As she requested, a private family burial will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Good Hope Cemetery. A very special thank you to our dad who took such good care of mom during her life and who came to rescue his girl from this world when we asked him to. The family would also like to thank our sister Lora, for her daily care and all the Hospice nurses from Fayette County who helped us get through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160. Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.summersfuneralhome.com
