Obituary

BILLY I. "BILL" BERRY, age 81, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

He was born on August 19, 1941 in Benton County, Tennessee to the late Jesse D. Berry and Laura M. (Brack) Berry. He was raised in Bertrand, Missouri by Jesse and Ola (Hurley) Berry. As a teenager he would spend time in Cleveland, Ohio with his mother and stepfather, Laura and Bob McQuiston.

At age 15, he started driving a Hendricks for Bill Heckert. In 1977, he met and married Carolyn J. (Michael) Tolle Berry and they shared 46 years of happiness together. At age 44, Bill earned his GED from Miami Trace High School. Bill was a man of many talents; he loved people and enjoyed making new friends, he was known for being witty, and he knew the Bible extremely well.

After several years of marriage, his stepchildren, Steve, Brad, Becky, and Mike Tolle became his children in his heart. He liked going to Burger King for breakfast and had a running joke there with a lady named Shorty. He loved his senior citizen friends, Nancy, Vicky, Evelyn, Marjorie, and Betty. He also loved the guys he played pool with at the center. His Church family meant a lot to him, especially June Milstead. He was a faithful member at the South Side Church of Christ. He was baptized by Pastor Barry Pettit.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Linda Berry, and Phyllis (John) Bohannon; sister-in-law, Rene (Eddie) Taynor; and mother-in-law, Marie Michael. He also lost a stepson in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, whom he loved and adored; his stepchildren, Brad Tolle who traveled around the world, and his favorite daughter-in-law, Bev Tolle; his favorite dialysis nurse, Becky (David) Crouch; his youngest stepson, Mike Tolle, whom he told people had never driven a boat before he stepped into one and drove it like a pro and took him on a ride around the lake. He leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren, Mandy, Ronnie, Sarah, and Stephen. Sarah and Stephen were very special to him. He also leaves behind several great grandchildren, three of which he was very close to, Colton, Conner, and Jayce. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including his favorite niece, Kelly: and his sister, Annette (Cliff) Gilliland of Petal, Mississippi.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Pastor Todd Maurer officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Sunday from 2-7:00 p.m.
