Obituary

CAROLYN ANN (ANTHONY) MERRITT, age 87, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was welcomed at the pearly white gates by several loved ones who had preceded her in death.

She was born on March 21, 1938 in Washington CH to the late Willis and Annalee (Ott) Anthony. She was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School and a lifelong resident of the community.

Before her retirement, she was employed at Sagar Dairy, Thatcher Tubing, and New Sabina Industries. Upon retirement she became the best babysitter for her great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Carolyn was an avid Michigan Wolverine fan; you could always find her watching football on Saturdays. She had a contagious smile, laugh, and loving heart. Carolyn always enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her sons, John Wayne Merritt, Dale Willis "Pat" Merritt, and Leslie Harold "Les" Merritt; siblings, Garry Anthony, Richard "Dick" Anthony, and Barbara Grooms; sister-in-law, Eva Anthony; brother-in-law, Frank Grooms; and the father of her children, Dale Merritt.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Dawn Merritt of Washington CH; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Merritt; brother, Larry Anthony; sister-in-law, Lynn Anthony; grandchildren, Fawne "Mickey" (Scott) Krape, Tawny (Dennis) Mitchell, Sara Merritt, Shannon (Lisa) Newman, April (James) Lyle, Jami (Ron) Winhoven, Kisha Merritt, and Jamee Merritt; great-grandchildren, Logan, Addison, and Beckett Krape, Branton (Kaylin), Jayden, Toby, and Lynlee Mitchell, Hannah, Ben, and Janet Meadows, Clayton (Baylee) Lyle, Mackenzie Lyle, Alex (Emily) Murphy, Mason Murphy, Aaron Winhoven, Dakota (Elizabeth) Merritt, and Gavin Ratliff; great-great-grandchildren, Ella Mitchell, Finley Lyle, and Evelyn "Evie" Murphy; and special friends, Sharon Anthony, Ruth Ann Redden, and Carol Copas. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Seymour officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

A gathering will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Washington CH immediately following burial. All are welcome to attend.
