CAROLYN K. THOMPSON, age 73, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1:50 a.m. at the Court House Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born on August 21, 1943 in New Martinsburg, Ohio to the late George and Lucy Hamilton Smith. She was their tenth child of eleven children total. She married Jack L. Thompson on February 7, 1964.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Jack, daughters, Jill (David) Crandall of Shelby Township, Michigan, Jan (Bill) Roop of Beckley, WV, and Joan (Doug) Sergent of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Lauren Crandall, and twins, Isabell and Isaac Roop. Also surviving are brothers, Darrell Dean (Mary Kay) Smith, Howard D. (Jean) Smith, and Joe E. (Sandy) Smith, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was a 1961 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School of Greenfield. She formerly worked for Fayette County Memorial Hospital, NCR, and for the United States Department of Agriculture from 1972-2008. She was a member of Ohio Nascoe and Eastern Star. A member of the Heritage Memorial Church since 1968 and taught Sunday School from 1972-2010. She was involved in the monthly nursing home music ministry with her husband for 18 years. Carolyn enjoyed music, calligraphy, crocheting, cake decorating, pie baking and delivering, and maintained an extensive get well card ministry. She loved the Lord, her husband and family, her grandchildren, her church, her community, her home, relatives, friends and those in need.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Robert J. Smith, Betty J. Jones, Sarah Glassner, George D. Smith, Richard L. Smith, Linda Smith and Gary D. Smith.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to all the faithful family and friends for their continuous love and support during Carolyn's illness.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church, 1867 US Highway 35 NW, Washington CH, with Pastor Bruce Morrison and Rev. Joe Duvall officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
