CHARLES "GENE" EUGENE RUTH, age 81, of Leesburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 9:47 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

He was born on February 11, 1936 in Fayette County to William Henry Ruth and Ethel Whaley Marshall. Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Peace Time. He had worked in construction, brick laying, and mechanics. Gene had attended the Good Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, gardening, and being with his family and grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Henry Lee Ruth, and sister-in-law, Linda Ruth.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Sutton Ruth, whom he married in 1974; his children, Rick (Georgena) Ruth, Lora (Doug) Miller, Daniel Ruth, Kimberly (Early) Ruff, Christopher (Molly) Ruth, Bridgette (Bryan) Bownes, Terri Lynn Ruth, Randy Ruth, Billy Ruth, and Chad Ruth; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special granddaughter and grandson, Jacqueline and Joshaua Jackson; brothers, William Ruth, and Wesley (Carolyn) Ruth; special niece, Rebecca Workman; and his loving canine companion, Gabby. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In keeping with Gene's wishes, cremation will take place after the service.
