Obituary

DALE A. HORNEY, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 3:24 p.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center.

He was born on February 19, 1936 in Washington CH to the late Wilbur and Katherine (Pierson) Horney.

Having completed his temporary journey here on earth; he has now been forever united with his Heavenly Father. He was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. After graduation, Dale started an apprenticeship in bricklaying and stone masonry. The Lord blessed these skills and used them as a labor of love, creating the opportunity for Dale to work on many big projects in downtown Columbus, which included work at The Ohio State University. Dale was a 60-year Gold Card Member of the Local #55 Ohio Bricklayers. In 1993, he was named Central Ohio Craftsman of the year for his work on the Brown Hall University project. The last job he supervised was as the Ohio State Supreme Court Building in Columbus.

He owned and trained harness race horses for 41 years. He attended the "Little Brown Jug" from 1958 to 2016, missing only two races. He was a former member of the US Trotting Association and the Fayette County Horseman Association. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Go Bucks!

Dale was a member of the Dragin Angels Car Club and enjoyed working and showing his 1960 MGA, 1969 Corvette, and 1952 Ford Pickup Truck at car shows.

He found a love for genealogy and visited many cemeteries, libraries, and court houses to uncover the mysteries of his family tree. Dale attended the men's walk to Emmaus #33 in Wilmington in 2001. The Lord blessed him by putting his wife, Mary Ellin Kyle (Hayes) Horney into his life; they were married on December 14, 1985. He was also a member at the Heritage Memorial Church.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Harold, Lawrence, Bill, Donald, Virginia, Marcella, Phillis, Esther, Betty, and Juanita.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellin Horney; daughters, Gale (Craig) Pukall of Charleston, West Virginia, Jolene (Chris) McCabe of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and son, William (Toni) Horney and stepson, Andy (Misty) Milstead of Washington CH; grandchildren, Ryan (Danny) Carter and their daughters, Kenlie and Hadley of Florida, Tori Horney, Kyle McCabe, Grace and Gretchen Milstead Horney; sister-in-law, Madeline (Bill) Baird; and brother-in-law, Peter Hayes.
