DALE LESLIE "PAPPY" MERRITT, age 84, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 12:50 a.m. at Four Seasons of Washington Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born on March 19, 1937 in Millfield, Ohio located in Athens County to James TC and Elsie Violet (Glaze) Merritt. He also graduated high school in Athens County. Dale relocated to Washington CH in 1957 and retired from Armco Steel. Dale was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed yearly hunting trips to Canada, bluegrass music, and spending time with his beloved family.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John W. Merritt, and Dale W. "Pat" Merritt; and siblings, Madeline (Harold) McCune, Wilma (Glenn) Olsen, Erma Lee Merritt, Kathleen (Eddie) Rumer, Audrey (John) Bernhardt, Charles (Gertrude) Merritt, James Merritt, Carl Merritt, and Tyler (Rose) Merritt.

Survivors include his children, Leslie H. Merritt, and Kurt A. (Dawn) Merritt; grandchildren, Micky (Scott) Krape, Tawny (Dennis) Mitchell, Sara Merritt, Shannon (Lisa) Newman, April (James) Lyle, Jami (Ron) Winhoven, Kisha Merritt, and Jamee Merritt; great-grandchildren, Logan, Addison, Beckett, Branton, Jayden, Toby, Lynlee, Hannah, Ben, Janet, Clayton, Mackenzie, Alex, Mason, Aaron, Dakota, and Gavin; great-great-granddaughter, Ella; the mother of his children, Carolyn Merritt; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Merritt. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family at Four Seasons.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
