REV. DALE MARTIN ORIHOOD, age 83, of London, formerly of Washington CH, rested in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the London Health and Rehab Center.
He was born on July 21, 1932 in Washington CH, to Edward and Charlotte Rodgers Orihood. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He worked at NCR and pastored the Nazarene Church in Washington CH and the Walnut Hills Nazarene Church in Huntington, West Virginia. He was a member of the Mt. Sterling Nazarene Church. He was a master carpenter and loved horses, hunting and fishing. Rev. Orihood lived by Phillipians 1:21 "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain".
Dale was inducted into the Washington CH Hall of Fame in 1988. He was an outstanding two sport athlete for the Blue Lions High School between the years of 1948-1952. His greatest exploits came on the football field where he brought statewide recognition to himself and the school. He was recognized as All-SCOL in his junior and senior years and captain of the 1951 team. In 1952, he became one of the first Blue Lions to play in the high school North/South all-star game. In that same year, he was named to the All Ohio First Team at Center.
Rev. Orihood was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and mother of his children, Jessie Mae Chisholm Orihood, his second wife Jean France Orihood, and his sister, JoAnn Taylor.
Survivors include his children Melissa Orihood and Timothy, and his wife, Sherryl Orihood; grandchildren Amanda (Corey) Pettiford, Bethany (Ryan) Danahy, Josh (Stephanie) Orihood, Becca (David) Gravelle, Kelsey Orihood, Madison Orihood and James (Kelli) Tipton and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Summers Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Sterling Nazarene Church, 226 N. Market St., with Pastor John Burr and Pastor Dortha Ross officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
