DAVID WILSON BEODDY, age 94, passed away peacefully from this life on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio following a brief illness. David was born on April 7, 1930 in Pike County, Ohio to the late Otto and Grace (Vulgamore) Beoddy. He was one of four children. His family moved to Fayette County when he was in high school. He graduated in 1949 from Good Hope High School, and married his sweetheart, Mary Butcher, on January 14, 1951 at Good Hope Methodist Church.

They had one daughter. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

David farmed with his father on the family farm. They grew corn, wheat, and soybeans, as well as hogs and beef cattle. He took pride in caring for his homestead and planting straight rows in his fields. After retiring from farming, David and Mary also ran their own wood refinishing business together. David enjoyed music, singing hymns, and playing his harmonica at Maple Grove Methodist Church, where they were members for over 60 years. He also enjoyed playing games with his daughter and later, his grandchildren. David always had a smile and was a good friend to many people. He could always be counted on to help a neighbor. David and Mary moved to Worthington Christian Village in 2015 to be closer to their daughter and her family. He was well loved by staff and many residents.

David was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years in 2020; his parents; his siblings Ethel Jackson, Phyllis James, and Charles Beoddy; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Survivors include his daughter, Denise (Bob) Spengler; grandchildren, Katie (Justin) Gentry, Kristen (Kyle) Alvis, and Ryan (Brooke) Spengler; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Luna Alvis, Lucy Spengler, and Violet Gentry; sister-in-law, Sib Yahn; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Family will receive those wishing to offer condolences on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Worthington Christian Village Multi-Purpose Room at 165 Highbluffs Blvd., Columbus, OH 43235.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 4209 White Rd. SE, Washington CH, OH 43160 with burial to follow at Good Hope Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Summers Funeral Home.
