DONALD E. ECKLES, age 81, of Phenix City, Alabama, formerly of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 3:00 a.m. at the Phenix City Health Care. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Fayette County to Jesse and Louise Kelley Eckles. He was a 1952 Washington High School graduate. He proudly served his country in the US Navy, retiring after 20 years of service during the Korean, Cuban and Vietnam conflicts. He retired from Delco Marine after 14 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #25 and the Elks Post #129. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife and mother of his children Joan Stackhouse Eckles, his son Dirk Eckles, brother William "Bill" Eckles and sister, Sandy Leaverton. Survivors include his wife, Betty Eckles of Alabama; his children Kim (Fred) Kilgore of Tennessee, Keith (Susan) Eckles of Washington CH, Jennifer (Chris) Taylor of New York and Rebecca Eckles of Washington CH; grandchildren Kaleb, Conner and Cameron Eckles and Kinsley Kilgore, as well as a host of family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church with Pastor Jay Lucas officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
