DORIS JEAN HELSEL, age 85, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Court House Manor Assisted Living.

She was born on April 22, 1940 in Peebles, Ohio to the late Virgil and Dentie (McCarty) Grooms. She was a 1958 graduate of Hillsboro High School and later attended Southern State Community College where she took several art classes at her leisure. Doris worked in sales at Gossard's Jewelers and Jones New York at the Jeffersonville Outlet Mall. Doris attended Crossroads Christian Church until her health would no longer allow. She was a self-taught seamstress, she loved shopping and her dogs, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Frank Helsel, whom she married on January 11, 1959.

Survivors include her children, Tari (Sam) Grooms, Bart (Sherri) Helsel, and Brad (Cheryl Ford) Helsel; grandchildren, Kyle (Jill) Stockwell, Taylor Stockwell, Ridley (Derickya Massie) Helsel, Weston Helsel, Balen Helsel, and Frankie Helsel; great-grandchildren, Milo, Owen, Lennox, and Harlow; and siblings, Mill Hollingsworth, Patty Nicodemous, and Tom Grooms. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank the caring, loving staff at Court House Manor Assisted Living Facility for the wonderful care they've provided over the past four years.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Garren officiating with burial to follow at the Good Hope Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
