Obituary

DOROTHY ELLEN (MYERS) MORTON, age 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior, passing away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 29, 1931, to Harry E. and Julia R. (Armstrong) Myers. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Norma Jean Kreemer; her precious daughter, Cyndi Meriweather; her maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her son, Daniel Morton (Jeannette); five grandchildren: Rob (Sara) Meriweather, Amanda (Kyle Mount) Meriweather, Josh (Valorie) Morton, Jaime Lehman (Dustin), Jeni Baughn, Perrine (Aaron) Weber, and Braden (Allie) Downey; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Jackson and Austin (Rob and Sara), Jaedan (Amanda), Nivea, Josh, Kyra and Cameron (Josh and Valorie), Justin Bowden, Avi and Gunner (Jaime), and Alyssa, Alayna, and Gavin (Jeni). She is also survived by nephews Mark (Veronica) Kreemer, Michael (Tammy) Kreemer, Richard (Margaret) Kreemer; cousins Ron (Dorothy) Armstrong, Marleta (David) Wilkerson and Tom (Nancy) Roberts; special friend "granddaughter" Shirley McNeil, and close friend who became like family, Kevin Evans.

Dorothy's greatest joy was her family. Her children and grandchildren, she felt, were the completion to a wonderful life, and when the great-grandchildren arrived, they were God's fulfillment to it. She marveled at how God could give us so much love to share. She was the matriarch of her family, a witness of her faith to many, and will leave an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her.

A graduate of West Senior High School in Columbus and attendee of Ohio University Chillicothe, Dorothy had a long and accomplished career, retiring in 2001 as Senior Buyer for Steelox Systems, Inc. (formerly Armco Steel). She served Fayette County Life Squad from 1985 to 1999 as Crew Leader, EMT, and Dispatcher, earning a Lifetime Achievement Award. At Grace Community Church and First Presbyterian Church of Washington Court House, she taught Sunday School, served as an Elder and Deacon, and was fondly known as "Aunt Dorothy" through years of leading and serving with church spaghetti dinners and ministries.

Dorothy dedicated decades to youth and community programs. She served 28 years with the Camp Fire Girls, helped establish Camp Murdock, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Junior Achievement advisor and Board President, an election poll worker, and a volunteer tutor with Ohio Reads. She also held memberships in the National Association of Purchasing Managers and the Fayette County Commission on Aging. In recent years at St. Catherine's, she enjoyed playing (and winning!) bingo, served on the Resident Advisory Board, and formed many cherished friendships with residents and staff.

Dorothy loved baseball, especially her Cincinnati Reds, and treasured every chance to watch or listen to a game. She was also rarely without a faithful dog at her side; dogs including Tibbey, DJ, Jellybean, and Nicky, whose constant companionship brought her joy in every season of life. Years ago, her daughter gave her a card describing her as a woman of "strong faith, gentle heart, quiet guidance, and a wonderful mother." Dorothy said she would be honored to be remembered that way, and those words remain a perfect reflection of the life she lived, steadfast in faith, devoted to family, and a blessing to all who knew her.
