Obituary

EDWARD E. FISHER, age 94, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the OhioHealth Hospice House in Columbus.

He was born on October 27, 1931 in Middletown, Ohio to the late Joseph and Lucy (Bederko) Fisher. He lived in Middletown for thirty years before moving to Washington CH in 1960. During his retirement, he divided his time between Washington CH and Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Mr. Fisher retired from the Armco Steel Corporation in 1986 after thirty-six years of dedicated service. He retired as Plant Superintendent, overseeing the welding department and several other operational areas.

A proud veteran, Mr. Fisher served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He completed three years of active duty and was honorably discharged in 1953.

He was an active member of the American Legion Post #25 and the Forty & Eight, serving on the Fayette County Honor Guard and firing squad.

A devoted member of St. Colman’s Catholic Church, Mr. Fisher served in numerous leadership roles, including, lector, usher, student teacher, President of the Parish Council, and the South-Central Vicariate.

He attended St. John Catholic High School and graduated from Middletown High School in 1949. He later attended Middletown Business School.

An avid golfer, Mr. Fisher was a member, director, and past President of the Washington Country Club. He served as a chairman of the Men’s Night Committee for fourteen years and as a member of the Board of Directors for seven years. During his tenure, he chaired numerous committees and played an active role in the development of the club’s watered fairway project.

Mr. Fisher was deeply involved in civic and community service. He served as chairman of Washington Christmas Parade in 1973 and 1974 while also serving as a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was active in fundraising efforts benefiting the Cancer Society, the Heart Association, and the Community Chest. He was also instrumental in establishing the local Junior Achievement program and served as an advisor for four years.

His commitment to youth and education was extensive. He served as President of the Eastside PTA, was active with the Paint Valley Council of Camp Fire Girls for four years, coached Little League Baseball, and strongly supported the Washington City School System. In 1976, he represented Washington CH as a panelist at The Ohio State University on the Committee for “Alternatives for Educational Design.”

Mr. Fisher was equally dedicated to the Washington Jaycees. He chaired numerous committees, served as President in 1964, and elected a State Director in 1966. During his years of service, he received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, the Boss of the Year Award, was recognized as an Outstanding Citizen, and was honored as a Jaycees International Senator (6464).

He was a dedicated member of the Fayette County Veterans Service Commission since 2011, service as President from 2022-2026.

His public service continued through local government. In 1966, he chaired the Citizens Committee that successfully retained the City Manager form of government. He served six years on the City Planning Commission, was a longtime member of the City Tax Abatement Committee, served a two-year term on City Council, and was a Republican Central Committeeman for four years, as well as a member of the County Executive Board.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (Patterson) Fisher, and his second wife, Justina Fisher; siblings, William, John, Paul, Frank, Peter, Joseph Fisher, Jr., Josephine Orth, Elizabeth Welch, and Mary Ann Kehr; and sister-in-law, Josephine Fisher.

Survivors include his children, Kathleen (Fisher) Pfahl, Mark (Cheryl) Fisher, and Gary (Jody) Fisher; grandchildren, Dustin (Sarah) Fisher, Hallie (Travis) Kelley, Brandon (Mary) Fisher, Christian Fisher, Brittany (Clark) Holliday, and Ashton (Jake) Caldwell; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Colton Holliday, Mason and Brynlee Kelley, Crosby Fisher, and Greyson and Maxton Caldwell. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear and special friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church with Fr. C.M. Haddad officiating with burial to follow at the St. Colman Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the St. Colman Parish Hall from 10-12:30 p.m.
