October 16, 1934 – July 8, 2023
ERMA JEAN RHOADS, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. She was born on October 16, 1934, at home (Pike County) to Charles and Ella (Workman) Mead. She married Wayne T. Rhoads on November 23, 1954. They raised two sons together, Rev. Tom (Vicky) Rhoads and Ed Rhoads.
Jean was a homemaker through her son's formative years. Jean provided a strong Christian heritage to her children as well valued faith, family, and friends.
Her public work career included Bargain City; Ross County Children Services; and Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health.
Surviving grandchildren includes Shane Rhoads; Joshua (Sarah) Rhoads; Brad (Beth) Rhoads; Justin (Katrina) Rhoads; Danny Evans; and Gabrielle Evans. Nine great-grandchildren and one great, great grandson. Sister-in-law: Maxine Meade. Also surviving are many cherished nieces and nephews.
In life's journey you become blessed with special relationships (Niece) Angie (Jeff) Doles who filled the role of daughter. Lifelong friends: Joe and Christy Hemsley; Juanita (Dick) Davis.
Preceded in death: Parents: Charles and Ella Mead; brothers: Rev. Weldon (Colleen) Meade; C. Milton (Pearl) Mead; Howard Mead; sisters: Gladys (Eldon) Rinehart; Thelma (Titus) Strouth.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Court House Nazarene Church, 990 Highland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160, with Rev. Dr. Dan McLean, Rev. Dr. Dan Tipton, and Rev. Dan Justice officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held at the Twin Township Cemetery in Bourneville, OH on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.
The Rhoads family wishes to extend thanks to Ohio's Fayette County Hospice Staff (Judy Havens, RN and Chaplain Jeff Davis) for providing excellent care to Jean at her end of life.
