ERNEST "ERNIE" F. STRAIT, also known as "Cookie", age 77, of Washington Court House, passed away from this life at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and entered his Heavenly Home in the arms of his Savior. Born on August 27, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ernest Clayton and Elizabeth Ellen Wamsley Strait. On August 5, 1972, he married the former Juanita J. Young, who survives.
Ernie worked as a Custodian for twenty-one years for Hamilton County School until his retirement, he then worked for another eight and half years at Franklin Tractor Sales. He was an avid fan of both the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds. Ernie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife of more than fifty-two years, survivors include his sister, Sharon Chandler of Columbus; his brothers, James Strait of Circleville and Raymond (Patty) Strait of Washington C.H.; his brothers in-law, John Young of Kenova, W.V. and James (Brenda) Young of Proctorville; his sisters in-law, Linda Gullett and Gina (Clint) Gullett all of Ashland, KY. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends.
Along with his parents, Ernie is preceded in death by his father and mother in-law, Rev. John and Freda Young whom he shared a close bond with. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Strait and Mary Cheadle, and his brother's in-law, George Cheadle and Wes Chandler.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, in Rome-Proctorville Cemetery, 902 Co. Road 411, Proctorville, Ohio 45669.
