ESTHER M. (DETTY) COCKERILL, age 84, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at her home. Her health had been declining for some time.

Retired, Esther wore many hats during her in the workforce, but her favorite hat of all was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She enjoyed watching game shows, court shows, and Hallmark movies. When her health allowed, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, and making quilts by hand.

Survivors include her children, Brenda (Bill) Warner of Washington CH, and Thomas (Amber) Cockerill of Greenfield; brother, Joseph Detty of Washington CH; seven grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph E. Cockerill; her parents, Clarence H. and Agnes L. (Conrad) Detty; daughters, Cheryl Toppins, and Theresa Morgan; and siblings, Rachel Davis, Mary Payton, Daniel Detty, Paul Detty, John Detty, Ruth Hartley, and David Detty.

To honor Esther’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be buried next to her husband at White Oak Grove Cemetery in Buena Vista. No public services will be held.
