IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fred Brate
Fickle
May 29, 1954 – February 2, 2024
FRED BRATE FICKLE, age 69, of Grove City, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his daughter's home in Washington CH after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
He was born on May 29, 1954 in Franklin County to the late Robert E. and Doris M. (Crowe) Fickle; Fred was their third child. He was raised by his mother, Doris, and father, Robert S. Besch. Fred attended Columbus Public Schools and was employed by Jeffrey Manufacturing & Mining Machinery for twenty years. He also worked for Bob Evans Farm and was currently employed by Heidelberg Distribution Company. Fred prided himself on being a strong mentor with a solid work ethic.
Fred enjoyed fishing with his father and brother at secret fishing holes and with friends at Buckeye Lake. He and his friends at Jeffrey would go fishing at Lake Erie in the summer and called themselves, "The Lake Erie Raiders." He loved the Rolling Stones, Columbus-style pizza, NASCAR, NFL, and OSU football, riding his Harley, and vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Florida. He also enjoyed being a "girl dad," taking his daughters with his sister (he always loved her coconut cream pines) and her children to the Secret Santa Parade, decorating shoe boxes for Valentine's Day, and attending may school concerts, plays, and dance recitals. He delighted in sharing funny and captivating stories among family and friends. He was quite a foodie, fashionista, and friend. Fred shared many memorable moments with his best friend, Timmy Crothers, whom he considered a brother.
Survivors include his siblings, Robert D. Fickle, and Vicki (Phil) Conley; his beloved daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Moore, and Kelli Fickle; grandchildren, Josie Fickle, and Kolton Moore; nephews, Shaun Conley, and Duane Fickle; and niece, Megan Conley. Fred was married to Janet (Irvin) Fickle for twenty-seven years and was a loving partner to Janet Bolin for twenty-two years; he was adored by her children, Greg, and Kim.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Summers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.summersfuneralhome.com
