It is with great sadness and shattered hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Frederick Paul Jones, a devoted husband, father, papaw, son, and friend, who left us on October 22, 2026, at 61 years old. The shock of this sudden loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him.
Fred was born at Fayette Memorial Hospital in Washington Court House, Ohio, to Frederick and Barbara Jones. He built a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and hard work.
Fred was a 1984 graduate of Washington Senior High School, where he is remembered as an outstanding athlete in football, wrestling, and track. He competed at the state level in both football and wrestling and was inducted into the Washington High School Hall of Fame. After high school, he attended Olivet Nazarene University, where he played football for a season.
In April 1985, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a Senior Airman for 4 years. Following his military service, Fred started working for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, where he joined the STAR team as an accomplished sniper and was activated during the Lucasville riot. While working at London Correctional Institution, he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services and Corrections from Hocking College. He eventually retired from Pickaway Correctional Institution, where he served as a captain.
He was currently employed with LH Battery as a production supervisor and as the HR director at the Greens Golf Course. He had also served on the advisory board at the Greens since 2022, a fitting role given his love for the game of golf. Anyone who knew Fred knew he was a diehard Ohio State Buckeye fan . . . GO BUCKS! He was passionate about pouring into the lives of young people and served as a football coach for the Blue Lions, while his son Cameron played. He was deeply rooted in his faith and cherished his relationship with God. Fred was a member at Heritage Memorial Church, where he had attended since 2005.
Fred is survived by his wife and soulmate of 22 years, Laura Lee Jones, whom he married on October 23, 2004. He is also survived by his children: Larry (Maggie Donohue) Redden-Jones, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Veenkant, Justin (Maria) Jones, Victoria Jones, and Cameron (Layla George) Jones. His grandchildren include Emersyn Chase and Peyton Veenkant, along with Declan Jones and Bodie Veenkant, who are due to arrive in the coming months, and baby Bennett, who is expected in the spring.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother, Barbara Kay Jones; his siblings, Danny (Phoebe) Martinson, Anita Jones and Sam (Bill) Davis; and his bonus children; Ashley (John) Yates, Kenny (Samantha) Bennett, and Betsy Bonham. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, close friends, and his beloved fur babies.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick Ralph Jones, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Church, 1867 Old US 35 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Jon Truex and Joy Stanforth officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family invites you to join them for a luncheon following the burial at The Robert Kline Center at Heritage Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Heritage Church in honor of Fred.
