Obituary

GENE A. PFAFF, age 95, of Matthews, North Carolina, formerly of Washington CH, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Gene was born in Auglaize Township, Allen County, Ohio on September 20, 1930, and graduated from Urbana High School in 1948.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothy Pfaff; his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ruth (McDonald) Pfaff, of 49 years; his second wife, Lucille (Ramsey) Pfaff, of 21 years; daughter-in-law, Jane (Anders) Pfaff; and grandson, Daniel Anthony Pfaff.

Survivors include his children, Gene and Rhonda (Hidy) Pfaff of Richmond, Virginia, Daniel and Dyan (Bloomer) Pfaff of Washington CH, Ohio, Thomas and Lori (Cruea) Pfaff of Matthews, North Carolina, and Cynthia (McDonald) and Ray Bennett of Washington CH, Ohio.

His occupations included farming with his grandfather, mail carrier, horse trainer and driver in Sulky Horse Racing, tool and die machinist at International Harvester in Springfield, Ohio; Owner-Operator of Dual Construction Company, an excavating contractor; heavy equipment operator and mechanic; Owner of Pfaff Superior Muffler in Washington CH, Ohio; and his final occupation was at Lazy R Campground.

In his earlier years, Gene enjoyed camping, water skiing, snow skiing, riding snowmobiles and motorcycles, playing golf, and as a private pilot, he enjoyed flying his airplane.

He had twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
