GLEN EDWIN CARDIFF, age 92, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 4:49 a.m. at the Kobacker House following a stroke.
He was born on October 14, 1922 in Amanda, Ohio. He was the last surviving son of ten children born to Scott C. Cardiff and the former Robin Wallace Cardiff.
Glen was preceded in death by his father in 1982 and his mother in 1961 as well as the following siblings; Scott Cardiff Jr., Russell Cardiff, Dwight Cardiff, Mrs. T.H. (Lily) Riggin, Mrs. Wells (Janet) Wilson, Mrs. Frank (Ursel) Graves, Mrs. Nelson (Eloise) Walters, Mrs. Robert (Mabel) Koshland and Mrs. John (Ruth) Craig.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mae (Bennett) Cardiff, whom he married on October 8, 1948 in Good Hope; a son, Michael G. Cardiff (Mary Robinson), two daughters Lora L. (Rick) Smith and Sandra K. (Daniel) Lewis; grandchildren Erin L. (Chad) McElwee, Scott E. Lewis, Jessica D. Lewis, Amy K. (Allen) Hudson, Chad J. Smith and four great-grandchildren.
Glen retired on November 30, 1983, following over 30 years of employment with Ohio Bell as a central office technician. As a member of the "greatest generation", he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on June 13, 1942, where he served as a radio operator and participated in the assault and capture of Peleliu, Palau Islands, in the Pacific Theater of operations during WWII, First Marine Division. He received an Honorable Discharge at Quantico, Virginia on June 13, 1946.
Friends may call at the Summers Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4-5 p.m. A private family burial with military honors will be held on Saturday at the Good Hope Cemetery with Danny Dodds officiating.
