Gordon Davis, 88, of Washington Court House, passed away Thursday August 6, 2015 at Fayette County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was the third son of Glen E., Sr. and Veral (Yahn) Davis, and was born September 23, 1926 in Fayette County.
Gordon is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lorane (Boylan) Davis, with whom he was married for over 67 years; four children James (Sandra Janes), Douglas (Linda Kuhlwein), Janet, and William (Sam Montgomery); five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Neil Davis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Glen E. Jr., Russell, and Lloyd; and brother-in-law Michael Boylan. Sisters- and brothers-in-law include Jack (Nete) Boylan, Jeri (Glen) Milstead, Sandy (Mike) Boylan, Lynne Boylan, Joe (Shirley) Boylan, and Violet (Glen) Davis.
Mr. Davis attended Washington High School and graduated in 1944. He served in the US Coast Guard and Ohio National Guard. He was a letter carrier with the US Postal Service for 37 years. He was particularly proud of his 20 years of elected service on the Washington Court House City Council, and was Council President and Interim City Manager. Gordon enjoyed making deliveries and seeing old friends for The Print Shop. He was a member of numerous social and civic clubs, including Fayette County Democratic Party, BPO Elks (Exalted Ruler), Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight, Knight of the Year), and Jeffersonville Masonic Temple. In addition, Mr. Davis was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State University football team. He loved nothing better than talking politics, baseball, and spending time with his family and many friends.
Gordon was a member of St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church for 68 years, and served in many lay capacities including usher, parish council member, and St. Vincent de Paul volunteer.
Visiting hours will be held from 3:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, August 9 at Summers Funeral Home, 223 W. Market St., Washington Court House, with a prayer service immediately after. A celebration of his life will take place at St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church, Monday August 10 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the Mass. A luncheon for families and friends will be provided by the Church family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Fayette County or St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church.
