Hazel Marie Underwood, age 96, of Washington Court House, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Four Seasons of Washington Court House. Born on April 2, 1927 in Bloomingburg, she was the daughter of the late Vollie C. and Mamie Smith Gregory.

Hazel graduated in 1945 from Bloomingburg High School and had worked at the Jackson Glove Factory and was retired from Calmar. She will be missed by many friends that she had worked with and all of her friends at South Side Church of Christ.

Survivors include her nieces, Patty Henry, Virginia (Donald) Pollock, Shirley Merritt, Vicki (Tom) Payton, Tillie Armstrong, Cindy Fusco and Mamie (James) Bordelon; her nephews, Jim (Janet) Harper, Ronald (Vicki) Harper, Larry Hillard and Greg Mills; her step-granddaughters, Jacqueline and Mariella. Also surviving are special friends, Marge Rayburn and Pat Martin.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Bill" Underwood; her son, Terry Underwood; her daughter, Teresa Underwood; her sisters, Josephine Harper, Thelma Custor, Martha Shaw, Maggie Belle Mills, Donna Jean Gilbert and Rosalee at infancy; her brothers, William and Frank Gregory and her brother Denver who was stillborn. Hazel was also preceded in death by her nieces, Carolyn Warner and Mary Ellen Orr and her nephew Tom Mills.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 in the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating, burial to follow in the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
