HELEN LOUISE MERRITT, age 95, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 5:16 p.m. at Court House Manor.
She was born on July 31, 1922 in Highland County to Floyd and Effie May Calvert Fraysier. She was a 1938 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School. Helen worked for thirty-two years at the Shoe Factory in Greenfield. She was a long time member at Heritage Memorial Church. She enjoyed going to church, singing in the church choir, and being with her family and grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 52 years, James Porter Merritt; son-in-law, James Fletcher; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah (Harold) Brannon, Myrtle (John) McMurray, and Betty (Harold) Fout.
Survivors include her children, James E. (Rosa) Merritt, Barbara Fletcher, and Fiffi (Gary) Paul; grandchildren, Tony (Darlene) Merritt, Tina (Andy) Everetts, Travis (Beth) Merritt, Holi Fletcher, James F. Fletcher, Bronwen K. Fletcher, Jeff L. Fletcher, Dr. Erica Lee (John) Mersfelder, and Jessica Danielle (Jesse) Williams; great-grandchildren, Cortney, Tori, Tifani, Christopher, Justin "JT", Jon Jon, Leanna, Kylee, Gage, Mara Grace, Liam Isaac, Ava Katheryn, Laney, and Aaron; and brother-in-law, Robert Stanton Estel. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church with Pastor Bruce Morrison and Rev. Joe Duvall officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Wednesday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
