HERMAN EUGENE PAYTON, age 71, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 5:26 a.m. at Court House Manor after a brief stay.

He was born on January 14, 1951 in Franklin County, Ohio to the late Winfred H. and Mary G. (Detty) Payton. Herman retired from Cargill Incorporated in Bloomingburg in 2011. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, NASCAR, watching football, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gail (Robinson) Payton, whom he married on December 21, 1984; children, David Payton, Leslie Payton, and Miranda Payton; grandchildren, Christopher, Madison, Arianna, Davante, and Lillian; and siblings, Carolyn (John) Trimble, Cathy Stiffler, David (Peggy) Payton, and James (Retha) Payton. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Summers Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
