Obituary

IMA JEAN HINES, born on July 29, 1938, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Court House Manor, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue through the generations she helped shape.

Ima Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Gomer Sparkman, and Luraine Reynolds; her stepfather, Roy Steele; loving husband of 63 years, Charles Lee Hines; siblings, Glidden Sparkman, Winford (Mildred) Sparkman, Ronnie Steele, Dick (Holly) Steele, Ray Steele, Kathleen Sparkman, and Jeanie Gregory; and her children, Danny (Nancy) Hines, Donna Johnson, and Richard Hines.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved daughter, Susan (Kevin) Manns; brothers, Gilbert (Ruby) Sparkman, Robert (Pam) Steele, and Jim Steele; sisters-in-law, Loreda Sparkman, and April Hines; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the entire (Clarence) Manns family. Each carries forward a piece of her love, strength, and example.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her special friend, Jamie Steiner; special friend and caregiver, Carol Willett; special friend, Yolande Robinson; and Tracy Nichols along with the compassionate team of Heartland Hospice for their kindness, comfort, and care they provided during her final journey and all of her friends at Court House Manor.

Ima Jean was the heart of her family. She was known for her unwavering support, remarkable strength, and the way she always put the needs of others before her own. Through life’s joys and challenges, her family could always count of her steady presence, comforting words, and unconditional love. She was a woman of resilience and grace whose greatest pride was the family she loved so deeply.

Though her absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled, the love Ima Jean gave so freely will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be remembered for her strength in difficult times, her welcoming smile, her Christmas cookies, her love for reading Amish books, her love for the Ohio State Buckeyes, her love for making everyone around her get a newspaper and fill her bird feeder and the unconditional love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to be part of her life.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Temple, 4361 State Route 41 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Andrew Johnson officiating with burial to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Family and friends may visit at the church on Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. After burial, a meal will follow at the Jeffersonville Lion’s Club, 1 Railroad St., Jeffersonville, OH 43128.

Ima Jean would want us to cheer and not cry. Please ditch the traditional black attire and wear your scarlet and gray! Michigan fans are still welcome; she loved you too!
