IRENE SMITH, age 82, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 12:20 p.m. at the Autumn Years Nursing Center where she had been a resident over the past year. She was born on October 6, 1931 in Fayette County to Ira and Ola Oma Lynch Jarnikan. She had worked as a cook at Case Convalescent and retired from there in 1999. She enjoyed decorating cakes and being with her family. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer "Buddy" Smith who passed away in 2007, two brothers, two sisters, and three sons Roger, Larry, and Arnold Lewis. Survivors include her children Karl (Amy Jo) Smith, Richard Smith, Cheri Smith, Homer Jr. (Dee) Smith, Teresa Craft all of Washington CH, Tammy (Skip) McGuire of Texas, Brenda (Ronnie) Scott of Sabina, Rita Runnels of Oklahoma, and Pam McGininnis of Greenfield. Irene is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Griffith of Anchor Baptist Church officiating with burial to follow in the Good Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.
