JAMES A. 'JIM' HUGHES, age 84, of Washington CH, formerly of Frankfort, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 5:23 p.m. at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 24, 1931 in Portsmouth to Merrill and Ella Patrick Hughes. He was a 1949 graduate of Frankfort High School and had also attended the Ohio University of Chillicothe. He was the owner and operator of the Hughes Oil Company for over 50 years. Jim was a member of the Austin Methodist Church, was a long time member of the Good Hope Lions Club, the Bells and Beaus Square Dance Club for more than 30 years, and was a past member of the Frankfort Masons and the Washington CH Shriners. He enjoyed camping.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Wesley Ryan Hughes, brothers Charles D. Hughes and Merrill Hughes, sisters Clementine Tootle and Merna Edmiston.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Parks Hughes, whom he married on December 6, 1953; children Jan M. Hughes Lucas, and her husband Frank Lucas and Don M. Hughes, and his wife, Bev; grandchildren Hannah Lucas (Rodney) Banks, Hallie Lucas (Dave) Andrews and Justin (Aarika) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Ella, Emerson and Eli Andrews and Lucas and Lila Banks; sister-in-law Mae Parks Hughes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Ell officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. A Lion's Club service will be held at 9:00 p.m.
