Obituary

JAMES 'TWEET" SEVER, age 75, of Washington CH, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11:44 p.m. at his home. He was born on May 4, 1940 in Frankfort, Ohio to Charles and Nellie Hollar Sever. He was a 1958 graduate of Frankfort High School. Tweet proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Cuban Missle Crisis and was stationed in Guantanamo in 1962. He also had been stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois. He retired from the Washington CH Fire Department in 1982 after 22 years of service. He and his wife were active farmers in Fayette County for 20 years. Tweet was a member of the Austin United Methodist Church, the Washington CH Eagles and VFW, and was a "red coat" at the OSU football stadium. He enjoyed the Monday night card club, playing sports at Frankfort High School for years. He was a member of the first All Ohio football team in 1957 as the defensive end, and was a hall of fame member of the Frankfort High School. During his stint in the Navy, he played for the Great Lakes Naval Academy. Tweet was preceded in death by his parents, siblings John, Bill, Donald "Poke", Martin, Virginia "Jenny", Vivian "Till", Elizabeth "Lib", Pauline "Polly", and Mary Lou "Lou". Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Cunningham Sever, whom he married on March 11, 1969; children David (Susan) Sever, Kimberly (Brian) Buchanan, and Jamie (Jeremy) Etzler; grandchildren Charles, Megan, Samantha, Abigail, Ashley (Jonathon), Daniel, Austin and Justin; sisters-in-law, Sue Sever, Dorothy Ream and Ilene Cunningham; 54 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church, 1867 US Rt. 35 NW, with Pastor Jonathan McCoy officiating with burial to follow at the Bush Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
