JAMES R. SMITH, age 67, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and Navy Veteran, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 3, 1957, he was preceded in death by his father, Cline Smith; his mother, Barbara Workman; his brother, Charles Smith; and his son, Jared Smith.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Renee L. Smith; and their children; Jeremy, James Patrick, Mirage Jent, Danielle Rundio (Derrick Williams), Christopher Rundio (Heather Rundio), Heidi Rundio, and Stephanie Huddleston (Kevin Huddleston). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A proud Navy Veteran, James, served aboard the USS George Washington Carver (SSBN-656-Gold). He was a man who always put his wife first, shared his love of fishing, carpentry, and the beach, and had an infectious sense of humor. James was a great father, and his grandchildren were especially dear to him. He even enjoyed skydiving once, embracing life's adventures.
James will be deeply missed, especially by Renee, his best friend and partner of many years. His legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will forever live on in the hearts of his family.
A Celebration of his Life will be held in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Foundation in his name.
Rest in peace, James. You will always be loved and remembered.
