JOHN EDWIN HYER, age 77, of New Holland and lifelong resident of Fayette County, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born on June 8, 1948 in Franklin County, Ohio to the late Frank "Hank" and Catherine "Katie" (West) Hyer. He was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School, where he enjoyed being part of "Majestics", playing popular music of the 1960's. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office where he worked as a Deputy for many years. John owned and operated Hyer's Heating and Cooling Services. He also enjoyed working with his long-time friend Dan Summers at Choctaw Lake before he finally decided to live the good life of retirement and traveling with his family.
John was a member of the New Holland Methodist Church and Grace Community Church in Washington CH. He enjoyed hunting, competitive shooting, watching sports, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family and grandchildren, which was always the highlight of his life.
Survivors include his loving wife, Linda C. (Gifford) Hyer; his children, Kara Jean (Adam) Moore, Jeffrey (Molly) Hyer, and Patrick (Kristi) Hyer; his beloved grandchildren, Emma Clark-Moore and her fiancé Dominic Nappi, Jordan Clark, Aidan Moore, Wesley Creamer, James Hyer, and Addison Hyer; siblings, Jay (Peggy) Hyer, and Jodie (Corky) Wilt; and in-laws Tom (Maria) Gifford, Glenn Gifford, and Dan Gifford. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends.
The family is thankful for the support of Veterans Aide, Anne Rohrer, and Hospice of Fayette County.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church with Adam Moore officiating with burial to follow at the New Holland Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the Church on Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ohio's Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160.
