Obituary

JOHN EUGENE SMITH, age 78, of Washington Court House, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at his home. Born on August 25, 1946, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late John W. and Viola Ann Dozer Smith. On March 19, 1965 he married his wife of fifty-nine years, the former Connie Kay Ater, who survives.

John attended Washington Court House City Schools and had worked as a Machine Operator at the Meade Corporation in Washington C.H. for many years. He had previously attended church at Crossroads Christian Church in Washington C.H. and enjoyed drinking coffee in the mornings at both McDonalds and Wendy's with his "coffee buddies". In the past, John liked to go fishing and deer hunting.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter,Tammy Smith; his grandchildren, Krin Jordan, Jenny Jordan and DJ Jordan; his great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Landen, Neveah, Ryland, Ava and Ace. Also surviving are his best friends and "coffee buddies", Don Ary and Randy McGraw along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Troy Allen Smith on November 10, 1994 and two children that died at birth, Drema Kay Smith in 1969 and Shawn Eugene Smith in 1972. Also preceding him in death are his siblings, Gerald, Bob, Juanita, Jerry, Oat, Carl, Lucille and Roxie.

A private burial will be held in Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family. No public visitation or services will be held.
