JOSEPH CHARLES "JOE" POPE, age 86, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, November15, 2021 at 11:20 p.m. at Court House Manor.

He was born on March 18, 1935 in Fayette County to Fred E. and Lucy T. (Holland) Pope. He was a 1953 graduate of Madison Mills High School. Joe proudly served his country in the US Army during Peace Time from 1958-1960. He retired from Armco Steel in 1991 after thirty years of service. Joe was an active member of the Fayette County Lodge #107 F&AM, the Washington Shrine Club, the Aladdin Shriners, and also the YMCA Silver Sneakers. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and traveling.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Darrell H. Pope and Frank Jr. Pope; and in-laws, Cecil and Thelma Thomas.

Survivors include his loving wife, Cindy Ann (Thomas) Pope, whom he married on March 7, 1981; his children, Andrew Pope and Jodie (Denis) Smith; granddaughter, Candie Jo McMullen; and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Robert Marvin. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Lynch officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Masonic Service will be held prior to the start of the funeral.
