JOYCE CAROLE (JAMES) HOLLIS, age 84, of Washington CH, passed from her earthly home and into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She had been a resident of Court House Manor.
Joyce was born on March 23,1941 in Mantua, Ohio to the late Paul and Sylvia (Dillon) James. She spent most of her childhood in Greenwood, WV. She graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1959. She attended Fayette Bible Church before her health no longer allowed. She loved studying the Bible and listening to music, especially gospel music of the Gaither Family and many records of Elvis Presley. After graduation, Joyce moved to Greenfield, Ohio where she met her husband of 65 years, Lowell Hollis. She was a devoted wife and homemaker.
Joyce was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, DeWayne, and Emmit James, as well as two sisters, Joan (James) Evans, and Linda (James) Campbell, all of WV, as well as a granddaughter, Maegan Hollis.
Joyce is survived by her husband Lowell Hollis whom she married August 27, 1960; sons, Mark Hollis of South Salem, Scott (Laura) Hollis of Oregonia, and daughter, Jamie (Ron) Zimmerman of Bloomingburg. Her heart and joy were her grandchildren, Jacob Hollis, Brooke (Alan) Alvarez, Maegan Hollis, Katie (Cole) Frederick, Travis Stanton, Katelyn (Jordan) Smith, Luke, Garrett, and Gracelyn Zimmerman; and thirteen precious great-grandchildren.
Surviving siblings are Lonnie (Shari) James, Barbara (James) Reed, and Naomi (James) Cunningham of WV.
Many nieces, nephews, family, and friends are left to cherish Joyce's memory.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Highlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Adena Hospice.
