Obituary

LAYTON EDWARD SHOEMAKER, age 81, of Washington CH, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 1:14 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Washington CH to Lester and Mary Whaley Shoemaker. He retired after 30 plus years of service to Armco/Steelox. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and also in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas as a military policeman. He was a former member of the Fayette Amateur Radio Association and loved working as a ham radio operator. Enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to Hank Williams, helping children and was known as a very giving person throughout his lifetime. He touched many lives. Layton was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Steven, Lester "Gene" and Richard Shoemaker and sister, Patty Albright. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Williams Shoemaker, whom he married on November 27, 1958; his son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Tonya Shoemaker; grandchildren Brian, Chris and Nicole (Tim); great-grandchildren Christian, Leon, Bridgette, Timothy, Suzanne, Brittanna, Dreama and Jamie; siblings David (Jackie) Shoemaker, Starley (Carolyn) Shoemaker, Mary Ellen Burlile, Dianna (Terry) Briggs and Violet Adams as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends including in-laws, Pam (Jim) VanDyke and Johnny (Margie) Williams. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Temple with Pastor Lyn Jackson and Andrew Johnson officiating with burial to follow at the Sugar Creek Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bible Baptist Temple,in care of the Layton Shoemaker Jesus Loves the Children's Fund, 4361 SR 41 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160.
