Obituary

LESTER E. "GENE" SHOEMAKER, age 77, of Sabina, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 7:35 p.m. at his home. He was born on September 28, 1936 in Fayette County to Lester E. and Mary Whaley Shoemaker. He had worked with Lane Farms for 41 years. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was a member of the Fayette Amateur Radio Club, enjoyed being a ham radio operator, fishing, hunting, gardening and anything outdoors. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley Williamson Shoemaker, daughter Deborah Burris, brothers Steven and Richard Shoemaker and sister Patty Albright. Survivors include his children Mary Shoemaker Ferguson and Teresa Shoemaker and friend Terry Taylor; grandchildren Amanda, Gary, Annie, Ashley, Bradley, Adam, Michelle and Alex; several great-grandchildren; siblings Mary Ellen Burlile, Violet Adams, Diana Briggs, Ted, Starley and David Shoemaker; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He is also survived by his beloved pet, Buddy. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Keith Clary officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery.
